Do I need to be an experienced embroiderer to join?
Not at all! EGA welcomes stitchers of every level, from absolute beginners to masters. Many of our members started with zero experience and learned everything through EGA classes and workshops. Our community loves helping newcomers discover the joy of hand embroidery.
Do you only do traditional embroidery?
We celebrate all forms of hand embroidery—from historical techniques like crewel and goldwork to contemporary thread painting and mixed media. If it involves needle and thread, we’re interested!
What equipment do I need to get started?
Very little! Basic supplies like needles, thread, and fabric are inexpensive and available at most craft stores. Many workshops provide materials, and our members are always happy to share advice about supplies.
What’s the difference between chapter membership and At-Large Membership?
All members of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America enjoy access to the guild’s benefits. All guild members located within the New England Region enjoy access to region-exclusive benefits.
EGA members who wish to attend in-person meet-ups, workshops, and other events can join one or more chapters. Each chapter offers different benefits, so their annual dues range. EGA members can join as many chapters as they’d like.
At-Large members don’t belong to any of the guild’s chapters. This option is perfect if there’s no chapter near you (or if you aren’t really into local clubs or events).
