Dr. Tricia Wilson Nguyen, owner of Thistle Threads, been embroidering – “building with a needle” -since she was four years old. She attended MIT, earning a PhD in engineering and eventually helping to establish the field of Electronic Textiles. Along the way, she never lost her passion for history, especially through coursework that explored how materials science can be used as an archaeological tool. This blend of engineering and history has shaped much of Tricia’s approach to embroidery – she considers herself a historian of textile materials culture through her work.
